moving to Shanghai!!!

In a very short 18 days I will be moving to Shanghai, China!

That's right I finally found a job, which apparently allows me to join a very select 19.7% of my graduating class that are applying to jobs and actually getting hired. I'm ecstatic (you should have seen me on Monday morning at 6am when I found out - hysterics) not only to have a job, but also to provide a response for all those people that have been asking for the past four years, "What are you going to do with a Chinese and French major?"

The answer: I will be the new communications assistant for a company called AQM France. Essentially, I will be working at the Shanghai office of a French-based quality inspection/control company to promote and develop their business in anglophone markets. Quite a linguistic conundrum! My future boss says they speak mainly English and French in the office, but I will have a Chinese roommate in case I need to balance things out.

Since Monday everything has been happening at lightning-speed, but so far has been running more smoothly than I initially expected. Pretty much the only things I have left to worry about are updating my professional attire and making sure my visa is processed correctly and in time.
I can't help but think a lot of this is fate. After all the job applications I filled out, all the cover letters I wrote and all of the late-night interviews I spent hours preparing for, this was the only one that seemed to combine all of my skills and linguistic competencies - and I got it! I feel like things are finally coming together after all my hard work and am looking forward to actually contributing something to society instead of just studying all the time!
